Trolling X-Raps ???

To those of you who troll X-rap lures be advised that after a few hours trolling the front trebles will wear holes in the side of your lure  Shocked. This causes the lure to fill with water and it will not work at all  Angry. I have repeatedly repaired ours with "Araldite" and resin but to eliminate the problem I have changed the front treble to a double with good results  Smiley. If you have them give it  go before it's too late  Wink.

I didn’t realise you were asking a question Benchy!

With some 150kg+ Bluefin being caught recently in Victoria and South Aus, and the season starting just like last season down there, there’s every chance that the big Bluefin could come back through here again this year. Time to check the GFAA rules for claiming records and upgrade your gear to catch these jumbos.

As many know, the trebles and rings on the X-Raps and Laser Pros out of the box can often fail on bigger fish. And hands attract trebles like flies to a turd.

A good idea for X-Raps and Laser Pros is to replace the standard split rings with Owner Decoy heavy class rings in size 8 for 150lb or size 9 for 200lb, and then run a single 8/0 Decoy Sergeant jigging hook point up off the rear eyelet. Using the Decoy Sergeant hook which has the eye parallel to the shank eliminates the need to use two split rings to get the point facing up, and they’re a very strong hook suitable for jumbo tuna.

You can use a stinger/assist hook off the rear eyelet as long as the eye of the hook is no more than the hook length from the eyelet. You can also run one or two assist hooks from the front or even the middle eyelets. It’s up to you whether you use one or two assist hooks but if you’re using two, remember that one hook needs to be longer than the other and the eye of the second hook must be below the curved shank of the first. And don’t forget an assist hook must not protrude more than one hook length past the body.
