mako,s are here
Jul 25th, 2010, 8:19am

went out yesterday with briso aidan, and it was a bit crapy on way out 15 to 20 knts se with a litlle swell, hit canyons at about 830 and we were suprised to see there was a southdrift with a little west in it at 1.3knts so we headed north  and posistioned the boat for a drift through the canyons with burley whilst fishing the bottom.

the positioning worked out pretty well and once sea anchor was deployed we had slowed ,we got 2 decent jemies around 4kg,then whilst winding up the last of the drops, briso spotted a mako ,we had a good look and it looked 100 to 120 so we threw out the 10 and aidan was onstrike ,and the mako came straight to it and grabbed the bait with absolutly no hessitation bang off he went aidan gave him a good amount of time,as we tried to retreive tha bottom out fit, then when the fish was struck and the hooks went in aidan was up solid at first it was a slow run down ,then off it went the 10 was screaming its head off,i looked at spool it was getting right down with about 200m left on the tiagra,i then looked at the bottom donk rig and it had 350m to go and it was comming up very slowly, then the mako changed angle and the lines crossed twice not good but nothin we could do,

the mako by now was full steam ahead for the bottom and with about 100m left on the ten i decided to cut off the bontom out fit and chase the fish.

we chased for a while then about 40mins, then  slack line  Sad Sad Sad nothing,
aiden wound back the line and nothing, the line crossing perhaps has taken its toll. Sad Sad Sad what can you do

back to burleying within 30minutes briso spotted another one , this time i was on strike,so after a quick chat with the big man i decided to give aidan my strike and handed him my egg beater for some fun the fish wasnt as big as the first one it looked around 60kg and would make good eating ,so aidan threw in the bait ,and again without hesitation the mako was on the bait, and wth the bail arm over on the saltist the 15kg igfa braid was flying off, then once the bail arm was rengagged and the hooks set aidan was up solid again  Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley,
the fish to the air immediatly with soaring backflips and huge line burning runs, the saltist 6500 was screaming its head of,after another jump we looked at each other and thought maybe this fish is bigger than 60 anyway this went on for 40 minutes before the bigman grabbed the trace i sunk a gaff in ,aiden got 1 more ,briso put the tail rope on,job done.

all happy chappies, once fish was in boat i thought 65 to 70 kg,well back to the scales and it pulled them down to 84.50kg on 15 .

according to my recolation this is the first time a pointscoring mako has been captured on a eggbeater in our club.

a great day out with good company ,and a nice mako and a feed.

out with the kids today ,see if we can get a blue shark today for jake ,rhiannon or candeece.

ill try and attach a picture of aidan fish

The makos are on the bite down south,  The opportunatee crew had a cracker of an arvo/ night on them tagging 8 and weighing 1 that went 101kg, Jumped another 3 off on the mono outfit set for there broadbill,
They were out having a night fish for a broady's but it ended up turning into a sharking bonanza,  well done to them with only brett, bubbles and young zoe our leading junior onboard.
We fished yesterday at mourya canyons and boated a 111kg on 6 after 3 hrs of batteling it out,
8-10 other boats out all looking for the tuna but to no avail...

day 2 on anticipation with briso and 2 jnr briso,s jake and jai,and rhiannon and candeece ,did a cube in 300 north of 500 kink no tuna but a great drift right towards canyons at around 2pm a 120 kg makoa was up took a bait on 15kg immeadiatly ,but would not run then when it did take off you could tell it wasnt hooked solid, then sure enough hooks pulled,20mins later it was back and same storie this time it did kick on but not at hook up 30 mins later came up wrong side ,we had the  trace  up but i coulnt get a good shot and i stuffed it up and it fell off. Sad Sad

then 20 mins later another was up i was on strike and grabbed the saltist egg beater again and it took bait again straight away,1.45hrs later briso traced we gaffed and it was ours ,.

pulled scales down to 196.00 on 15kg another good day.

theres a few around .

well done guys and little lady we had quite a funny day as well on sunday started with yellow fin busting up everywhere for about an hr.
Then the first rod went off while trolling a spreed of jb lures. Young peter anew member for the club went with out luck and the fish one its freedom.Since there was so much action we pulled up and started to cube 20minutes into it and we had our first pack at the back of the boat all fish were of the 40-45kg mark one hook up 5minute fight nothing for it.1/2 anhour later we had another fin at the back of the boat this one we managed to get in the boat and it went 11.5kg.Later in the day we travelled north were we first started and as we were about to finish the livebait went off but snap the line broke above the swivel.Aswe thought it was a shark we sent adead bait out and 5 minutes later were on  about 1hr later here comes the trace then the hook we are conected to the fish by the line it had out its mouthand was rapped around a hook.Asthe line made its way to the boat we grabbed it tyed it around the bollard but as the fish took off he bit us off YOU JUST NEVER KNOW WHATS GOING TO HAPPEN WHEN YOU LEAVE THE HARBOUR whoison wrote on Jul 25th, 2010, 10:18pm:
