Just posted the Zone Tournament information and entry form here...

29th December2008
Well I hope you all had a good Christmas.

The weather hasn't been the best for game fishing but one boat that managed to get out on Saturday was Anticipation, and their excursion was well rewarded with the capture of a Striped Marlin on 10 Kilo gear. This was a Club record, in fact the first Marlin captured on 10 Kg line.  Well done to Skipper and Angler Mark Halling.  Great Zone points as well.

The weather being what it has, has provided a great opportunity for Dads to take the kids out for a bit of fun.  The Kingfish and Salmon have been going mad off the Port Islands and Bass point.  Travis Anderson was one such proud father when his young fella boated a nice Salmon on 3 kg line.  I understand Travis is submitting this for a NSW record but I'll let him tell you more about that on the forum.

Pointscore update - here...

All the best for new year everyone.  Weather looks good for Thursday, but how many will make it?

Message from NSW Fisheries
NSW DPI have asked me to pass on a message to Shellharbour Members.
Apparently some of us are very sloppy in filling out tag card details. Please make sure all details are filled in and be more specific in the location of the catch.  An example he gave me was "Shellharbour wide". That is not good enough.  Latitude & longitude must be given. If you don't have a GPS you can work it out from your sched map. Full name and address of Angler etc. must also be given correctly.

Weekend's best....
Congratulations to Carol Goodger on taking out the first tagged Marlin trophy.  Great effort and the girls continue their good form. Congratulations too, to new Member Darrell Brisbane on his Club record capture of a Blue Shark on 24Kg gear. New Pointscore Update has been posted.

Christmas BBQ....
A Christmas BBQ and get-together has been set down for Saturday December 6th.  Venue is Cowrie Island at the boat ramp and start time is around 12 noon.  Soft drinks and food will be provided but bring your own Grog.  Keep an eye on web site and forum for any unfortunate cancellation due to weather.

Information Evening....
As per discussions on the forum this has been organised for the evening of Friday December 12th at the Shellharbour Workers Club.  Experienced anglers and novices can get together to discuss, teach and learn the techniques of big game fishing.

100 Club....
Boy, this seems to have stalled in a big way.  C'mon people, at the risk of appealing to those that have already bought tickets, please support this fund raiser.  We get a lot from the Club and this goes to help pay for what we get.  If we can get the last few tickets sold quickly we can start the draws and give out some Christmas money. Buy one, buy another one, phone a friend, let's go go go..... Check available numbers here.

Changes in Fishing Rules...
At last Friday's general meeting the rule was clarified regarding Members fishing from a non-Club registered boat.  This is permitted and catches are eligible for Club and Zone pointscores and awards, as well as Club records.  However,  fishing gear must still be presented for inspection upon request, so be aware of that if you are using borrowed gear as well.
It was also advised that as per the NSWGFA and AGFA change in rules, CIRCLE HOOKS ONLY to be used for live baiting.  This rule is effective immediately.

Web site down
Due to an oversight on my part, we lost the web site and the forum for a while.  Never mind it's back again so get back into it here...

Pointscore Update
Three excellent shark captures on the weekend, including a new Club record, will greatly help our Zone points this month. Albacore and Tuna run has slowed markedly so lets hope the Marlin are on their way. Pointscore update here...

15th October 2008
Pointscore update
Just a bit of a pointscore update to include El Bandito's results from Sunday.  Another great result for them as well as the Club in Zone points.  Bad luck to David Stella who landed a great Blue Shark which came up less than 2 kilos short of a Club record. A great capture all the same.  New Junior Member, Kale Watts, also had a good day, tagging a small Mako and 2 Albacore. Greg's full report  here...

13th October 2008
What a weekend?
Saturday saw 8 Shellharbour boats on the water and Sunday another 4.  Most reported catches with both Anticipation and Reserection capturing 3 sharks.  Jackawhy tagged a Mako and lost another on the trace.  That will make it a huge weekend for Zone points.  Hard luck story of the weekend has to be Shane Ashton on Benchmark who lost the tail of an 80Kg Yellowfin to a marauding Mako which unfortunately disqualified the fish from all points and records.  A tremendous effort on his part and you can read his full story, along with other reports, here...

Pointscore Update
Club pointscore has been updated with paperwork received to13th October.

Meeting change
Commitments have forced the upcoming general meeting to be put back a week and is now scheduled for Friday Nov 7th.

Newsletter
Newsletter has been printed and should be in the mail shortly.  You can also view or download it off the web site.  Just be aware that the file size is quite large, around 2.4MB, so unless you have a broadband internet connection it is impractical.

29th September 2008
Anticipation at it again...
This Zone weekend saw Anticipation continue on the winning way to take a big lead in Champion Capture Boat.  Another maxi, this time to Mick Gamble, sees Mick taking over a slender lead from Tom Ellams in Champion Angler, although with his winter points, Tom continues to lead Club Champion. Pointscore update is here...

Club Records
Two more Club Records tumbled in September with Greg Hogan knocking off the 8Kg class for a Blue Shark and Roger Fooks starting a new 37Kg class for a Mako weighing in at 119.9Kg.

100 Club
100 Club tickets are three quarters sold but sales have slowed a bit.  The sooner they are all sold the sooner we can start the draws.  Contact any Committee Member for a ticket or check the 100 Club page for available numbers.  For 100 Club payments you can pay any Committee Member or contact the treasurer for online payment options.

Congratulations to the Wollongong GFC on a very successful tournament.  The weather Gods were certainly smiling on them.  Great tournament reports from Anticipation, who has hit the ground running with summer pointscore, and El Bandito.

Pointscore Update
A bit of improvement weather wise, and from what I read on the forum, a few fish weighed over the weekend.  I've done a bit of a pointscore update but the weekends fish are not included.  This is because I haven't received the paperwork, and that is because the weighmaster hasn't either.  A reminder to all Members that points will not be awarded until the appropriate paperwork has been completed.  The time limit for that is 28 days, but be careful, if you leave it too long it may be that you, and the Club, could miss out on Zone points as the Zone return has a cut off date as well.  Latest Southern Zone update has also been posted.  Shellharbour was the only Club to register points.

Anticipation Hat Trick
Congratulations to the crew on Anticipation on scoring a Mako hat trick last Wednesday.  Mark, Ivor and Roger each managed to bag a Mako on varying line classes to open the Angler and Boat non-pointscore challenge. Marks report is on the forum along with other good weekend reports from El Bandito and Benchmark. Check out all the fishing reports here.

Meeting Calendar
President Mick and the committee have come up with a meeting calendar for the ensuing year as well as other news and items of interest. Full details in News and Mailbox.

8th September 2008
Another weekend lost!
Well another weekend lost due to rotten weather.  This recorders job has got to be the easiest job out - nothing to do! When's it gonna stop?  Probably this weekend coming, seeing as I can't fish.  But it's a zone weekend so I hope a few boats can get out there.  No doubt the big Makos are still about.  The following weekend is Wollongong GFC's tournament and I hope the weather improves for that as well.

100-Club
Anyone looking at the forum will notice that the 100-Club is back on again.  Great way to support the Club and win great prizes at the same time.  Just ask Reidy!  Anyone wanting tickets in this, just contact any Committee Member.  Plenty of numbers spare at the moment so there's every likelihood your favourite number is still available.  Unless it's number 24!  For some reason that number is very popular.

AWOL
I try to keep as up to date as I can with the web site and the forum but I'm taking a few days off at the end of this week so things might slip a bit for 4 or 5 days from Thursday.  Also as recorder, I may not have a pointscore update until Tuesday next week.  But here's hoping I have a lot to catch up on when I get back. Good luck and getintoit....

2nd September 2008
Mako Action
With Sunday's forecast a bit on the grim side, 6 boats ventured out on Saturday, on what turned out to be the last day of the Winter comp. A lot of big Makos were about but, but as it turned out, they were very hard to boat. Anticipation had a 2 2 0 and Jackawhy a 4 4 0.  Jamie Reid on Reserection was the only one to claim a capture with a Mako that went 196 Kg but the boat also lost another 2 for a 3 3 1.  The Megaladon crew fished a little north of the Canyons missing out on the Mako action but managing to tag a Blue shark.  A full report from Mark on Anticipation is on the forum.

First Blue Fin for Club
Shane Ashton on Benchmark went out wider chasing Tuna.  From Shane's report it looks like the the action was pretty slow but he still managed to capture the Club's first Blue Fin Tuna.  Well done to Shane and a new Club record.

3 Way Tie for Winter Tag Champion
It ended up a 3 way tie for the titles in the Tag division of Winter Champion Angler and Winter Champion Boat.  Andy Priest (Jackawhy), Shannon Honeysett (Anticipation) and Louis Whant (Megaladon) each had 2000 points for tagging sharks.  However, Andy Priest takes out the title having tagged is first. In the Capture division, Brian Jones took out Winter Champion Angler with 10950 points and Winter Champion Boat was Reserection with 20554 points.  Pointscore as at 31st August is here.
